Schedule: September 28-October 2

Students: We have a lot to learn from one another...and when we are desirous of righteous things, the Lord provides! Thanks for a wonderful week of learning and discovery in the scriptures.

Reading Assignment: This week we explore 1 Nephi 16-22. We will learn about the trials of Lehi's family, find the Liahona together with them, and learn what it means to liken the scriptures to ourselves/our families. Great stuff for what promises to be an amazing week!

Remember that it is your responsibility to READ EVERY DAY. This is the best way to get the most out of our seminary experience. And there are incentives...look for them this week!

Parents: Ask your super Seminary scholars what they learned this week about Lehi's dream and Nephi's vision and how it pertains to us. They can also tell you what goes into truly desiring to know the truth, and how Nephi taught us what we can learn when we are faithful, obedient, observant and ready. They have some great principles to teach you. Also, let them sing for you the Book of Mormon song and recite their scripture mastery verse from 1 Nephi for you.

Most memorable Seminary moment for me this week: "If the Great and Spacious Building were so amazing, why were they even bothering the people who were trying to do the right thing?" So true. Wow.

Be faithful, read your scriptures, share your testimonies and follow Christ's example. I learn a lot about the Savior by watching each of you....

Love,
-Bro. Sherinian

Schedule: Sept 21-25 (Lehi's Dream, Nephi's Vision)

Students: You taught me so much this week about obedience, sacrifice and faith! "I will go and do..." is an amazing lesson for each of us as we strive to serve the Lord. Thank you for your examples and your testimonies...and for getting to class on time!

Reading Assignment: This week we will learn about Lehi's dream and Nephi's Vision by diving deep into 1 Nephi 6-15. Make sure to review the activities suggested in your Student Manual to understand these chapters better and get the most out of your daily reading.

What to expect this week: You will have a special guest this week -- our class substitute Sister Gartz will be with us on Tuesday. She is fantastic and you will love learning about Lehi's dream with her! Please show her your very best early-morning brilliance!

Parents: Ask your students what we learned about faith and hope (Does faith need to be "optimistic" about life/us? Is the Lord?) and how there are many ways one can "murmur"...so we need to be aware of them in order to avoid it...not that any of us would ever do it, right? :) Your students learned a scripture mastery verse...1 Nephi 3:7. Please review it with them. We're well on our way to memorizing all 25 scripture mastery verses.

Favorite things I heard you say this week:
  • "If we really know He prepares the way, we shouldn't have to waste so much energy thinking about things and just do it."
  • "I know people who are actually fluent 'murmur' speakers."
  • "Nephi rocks."
To All: Have a great weekend and share something you learned about the Book of Mormon with a family member and buddy. I love our class and pray for you each day that you will continue to be a light to your neighbors and friends.

Be faithful and read each day.

Schedule: Sept. 14-18 (Meet Lehi, Nephi and the Family!)

Students: Thanks for a great first week of Seminary! You truly are extraordinary Gospel scholars who have already taught each other some of the secrets of a "deep dive" into the Scriptures!
This upcoming week we meet Lehi's family and learn about the faith and obedience of Nephi...and have our first Book of Mormon scripture mastery.

Reading assignments: 1 Nephi 1-5 (check out your Student Manual, which has great activities and ideas to help you get the most from your reading).

Remember to read daily, bring your scriptures to class and be faithful!

Parents: Ask your Seminary Scholars what we learned together this week about the Book of Mormon as the "Keystone," what's unique about the Title Page, what the difference is between snorkeling and scuba diving in scripture study, and what kind of armor they need to confront challenges in 2009...they have lots to teach you.

See you at Stake Conference (I will ask you what your favorite thing was you learned from the talks...get ready!). You are amazing Ambassadors of the Gospel!

Back to Seminary! Book of Mormon Week 1!

Hello Class! It's Brother Sherinian here -- so excited for this excellent year of Seminary to really dive into the Book of Mormon (remember that verb "to dive" this week...you'll hear it again). I can hardly wait to learn what you all have to teach me!

Brother Jardine has left us a wonderful legacy with this blog and I will do my best to continue the tradition by posting useful information (reading, schedules, homework assignments, etc.) each week. I'll distribute a draft schedule this week of what the 2009-2010 year has in store for us.

Class begins this Wednesday, September 9, 6:30 in the a.m. We have a great crop of new students this year. Some of them are familiar faces and a few are new friends. All of you are potential Super Book of Mormon Ambassadors!

This Week:
Thursday, Sept 10: Introduction, Plan of Salvation
Friday, Sept 11: Witnesses

Remember to bring your scriptures and your smiling faces. This week's reading assignment is not long, but full of great material and lessons for us. Dive in!

See you Wednesday morning!
